When literature student Anastasia Steele is drafted to interview the successful young entrepreneur Christian Grey for her campus magazine, she finds him attractive, enigmatic and intimidating. Convinced their meeting went badly, she tries to put Grey out of her mind - until he happens to turn up at the out-of-town hardware store where she works part-time.The unworldly, innocent Ana is shocked to realize she wants this man, and when he warns her to keep her distance it only makes her more desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her - but on his own terms.Shocked yet thrilled by Grey's singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success – his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving adoptive family – Grey is a man tormented by demons and consumed by the need to control. When the couple embarks on a passionate, physical and daring affair, Ana learns more about her own dark desires, as well as the Christian Grey hidden away from public scrutiny. Can their relationship transcend physical passion? Will Ana find it in herself to submit to the self-indulgent Master? And if she does, will she still love what she finds?Erotic, amusing, and deeply moving, the Fifty Shades Trilogy is a tale that will obsess you, possess you, and stay with you forever.
There are things that I liked & there are things that I did not like, but honestly I liked more then I didn't. But, the things I didn't like took it down a little bit. But still a very "enjoyable" read!
That is that. I know there is a lot of people huffing & puffing over this book, but here is the bottom line for me:

"I Loretta, enjoyed Fifty Shades of Grey"

Enjoyed yes! Did I "LOVE" it? No, I didn't LOVE it. But I didn't "HATE" it either! So if you did not that is FINE. But, if you did like it, great. I have seen things on GR, about if you read this you are not classy, you're nasty, you're this & you're that.. Yeah, ummm.. ok! If YOU say so. I am who I am, and you not liking a book I liked does not change ME. Sorry.

What was Fifty Shades about? Was it out of this world amazing? What was it about it that "I" liked?

Fifty Shades of Grey is about Ana, a young woman who hasn't experienced much in her life. Nothing even remotely sexual. She goes to school, works, and hangs out with her friends. About it.
That is until she one day meets Christian Grey, at an interview which she was forced to go to because, her friend could not. Besides making a fool of herself during the interview, she feels very strange around Christian. There is something about him, something dark, yet alluring that pulls Ana in. Ana has not really had any interest in guys. So for her this is ... strange.
Christian Grey is a very successful man; even for his age he seems to have accomplished a lot more than the normal guys his age would have.
Even after their meeting Ana cannot get Christian out of her mind. She would like to, knowing she will never see him again. But she cannot, and then when he walks into her job, to buy some very ... question asking items. Ana & Christian are seeing each other more and more after that. But what Ana finds out about the mysterious Mr. Grey will surprise her, and rock her world all at the same time. Christian Grey has a little secret no one knows about. He has his rules, his way. He is very blunt, and wants what he wants, WHEN he wants it. But even with him there is something with Ana that draws him back a little from his normal ...punishment. Does Christian have some sort of feelings for Ana as well? I guess you will have to read & find out.
As for the characters, this is sort of the parts, which I did not like. Ana.. poor Ana. Here she is this normal, boring girl and then Christian comes along, changes everything and she then turns into this "mad, crazy needy woman" in a way. And that was a little annoying. She had a "need" ... a "want" & I understand that, but... she was just.. at times very annoying. And in love way to fast. I just wanted to keep yelling, you're not in love, you're just addicted to the sex, there is a difference there Ana. But I guess you cannot expect anything more for the girl who what thrown into the red room of pain. ;) But then again, I loved how Ana thought things through, and said NO this is what you will not do, or I won’t sign! (Sign what you ask? Oh, you'll have to read to find out, but it is a part of Christian's secret.) & it was like she was fighting with her "inner goddess" all the time, which was funny!! It was like she was 2 people fighting all the time. Inner Goddess usually won that one! ;)
Christian. Mr. "Demanding". He was oh so demanding, and not just at the right moments, all the time. Literally. I mean sometimes, ok that is fine.. BUT there is a line dude, that once you cross you seem kind of too much to handle. There are things that he did, and said, that if this wasn't a "Book" and I was placed in that situation... home boy would not be walking properly, and it wouldn't be because of anything good... yeah. But, I thought that he was hot. Yes, I didn't compare him to EDWARD, seeing as how... me not knowing this was "fan fiction" at first, but still.. I couldn't imagine Edward doing those things... ever.
Like I said, I have never read “Fan Fiction” that I know of. I mean I honestly didn’t know this was fan fiction. But, who cares. I don’t.
I have read plenty of erotica books, which were less of a story and more “just” sex. I liked them too. Although there were a lot of sexual moments between the characters, it had a story with it. Ana's life out when she wasn't with Christian. I really liked her friend. They were characters that had problems, secrets, and feelings. Characters in which you got to know. No, this may not be the book for everyone. I understand that. To each is their own, right? There were plenty of parts that made me blush a bit, or be like Omg, no way.... really? But overall this was not a BAD book. I have read worse books then this, and they were not “fan fiction” so what does that have to do with anything?
If you are a fan of erotica, or even if you want to take a dip into the “naughty” books, try it. If you choose not to because of others, but you want to anyway, then try it, and don’t tell anyone. Idk, but I plan on in the future continuing the series, because I want to know what happens.

“I want you sore, baby,” he murmurs, and he continues his sweet, leisurely torment, backward, forward. “Every time you move tomorrow, I want you to be reminded that I’ve been here. Only me. You are mine.”
Laters, baby!

  1. Great review of + and - . I'll get to it eventually. Master of the Mountain by Cherise Sinclair was my first dip into the pool. The sexy was sexy, but the story was strong too.

    1. I will have to look up that one. Thank you.
Yes, I was very happy there was a story in this one as well.

  2. I'm with you 100% -- if people read and enjoy this book, that's great. If the book isn't for you, that's fine too. Trying to make people feel bad for what they read = not cool.

I have so many other books to get to that this series isn't really a TBR priority for me, but I really enjoyed reading your take on it -- thanks for the review :)

  3. I won the first two books about a year ago in a giveaway, so I will definitely read them at some point. I don't think there's anything wrong with you or anyone reading this book, and no one should feel guilty for reading it. I'm just not sure I can read it objectively knowing that it's Twilight fan fiction, or was. But we'll see! I'm glad you enjoyed it, Loretta!

    1. I do not think there is anyone reading them. Yes I learned they were fan fiction later on, but still. I would have given them a shot. I like to dive into other genres sometimes, and this was enjoyable. I hope that when you do read it, you at least like it. A little. LOL

  4. I've had so many conversations about this book! Mainly, that I hate when others continually tell me how much they hate this book, it's trash, only idiots would read it. And guess what? 75% of those ppl who say they hate FSoG....HAVEN'T ACTUALLY READ THE BOOK!! I mean, what the hell??

I have read it. I didn't think it was the best book ever. I rolled my eyes sometimes. But I did overall enjoy the story. Christian and Ana have issues. They are working on them. The book was pretty freaking interesting.

I guess what I'm saying is: to each his own. If you don't like a book ...fine. But don't try to make those who do like it feel like a demented freak. Especially if you haven't read it for yourself.

    Great review!

    1. Exactly! There were some parts I was like you have to be kidding me.. but, all in all enjoyable. I know it is unreal how many people bash the book, and have yet to eve read 1 page. I do not get it. It was not my favorite book, no! But, it was not the worst I have ever read!! Thank you for your thoughts & reading my review it means a lot!!

  5. Great review! I really dislike all the backlash these books get. It is clearly not a book for everyone, but there is no need to trash those of us who did enjoy it. Like Andrea said, most people who "hate" it never even read it. You cannot truly hate a book you never read. I understand why people are averse to picking it up, like I said its not for everyone, but there are people out there who will enjoy it. Once again, great review!

    Yes! Love that!

Oh, and this... "home boy would not be walking properly, and it wouldn't be because of anything good"

  8. I have read this one and I have to say....THIS IS NOT EROTICA! There I got that off of my chest. I didn't say that to be mean to you or anything I just hate that at the bookstore people are like OH Don't Buy That Book....its really really dirty.....

First off if this is erotica I'm turning in all of my erotica books and demanding my money back. This book is more like dirty romance instead of an erotic novel. The author spends more time explaining what it means to have a Sub/Dom lifestyle instead of just having them participate in the lifestyle. You are either a sub or a dom or you are neither. What Anna does is sit on the line and say oh well I want some dirty sex but I don't want to be his sub....well then this right off the bat isn't as steamy as it could be. The fun of Fifty's lifestyle is that he needs to have a sub to control...Anna will not be that girl for him so he has to move away from his lifestyle in order to keep her which makes this book far less steamy then it could have been.

I did like certain aspects of this book just like you did but it really bothers me that people say this is a dirty novel....its not because I've read far dirtier things that are actually erotic and break that line of sub/dom roles and take sex scenes far past anything this book could even hope to do.

I do think you should continue on with the series though because book two is far better than this one.

Thanks for the great review. Sorry for my slightly off topic rant on why I dislike when people talk about this book as being erotica
