Interview with Suzanne Young + Giveaway

Today I have with me the very talented, beautiful author Suzanne Young. For all of you who know me, know I love Suzanne & her books. So I am very excited to have her here on Between The Pages today!!

Suzanne Young is a brilliant scientist. Not really. But she is a former middle school teacher turned zookeeper (mother). When not fending off zombie squirrels, Suzanne can be found in Arizona writing novels for teens.Suzanne is the author of A NEED SO BEAUTIFUL (Balzer&Bray/HarperCollins), A WANT SO WICKED (Summer 2012) and THE PROGRAM (SimonPulse, Spring 2013)

1.) In A Want So Wicked we meet Elise Landon. Who is such a great character. I love how she really handles everything in such a mature way. What is it about Elise that you like the most?
Suzanne: I love the way Elise interacts with her family. Although she’s a pretty innocent character, she’s also funny. And she’s never funnier than when she’s teaming up with her sister to give her father a hard time. 
BTP: She is. I loved her.

2.) Suzanne, you are the master of Swoon worthy guys. You actually have 2 in A Want So Wicked! Abe & Harlin. Are the guy characters the easiest characters to create?
Suzanne: Abe was very complicated. He actually went through a few revisions before I was happy with him. I don’t write books to surprise the reader. I don’t try to hide who the characters are. But there is a balance that still has to be reached for the ending to work. And Abe had some pretty MESSED UP scenes. Haha So it became a challenge with him in the end.
And Harlin is Harlin. Once his character was created in A NEED SO BEAUTIFUL he’s been alive in my head. It’s been nice. 

BTP: Yes, Harlin is Harlin for sure, oh my, he is something else. & even I thought that Abe was a GREAT addition to the books! He played his role GOOD! You did wonderful.

3.) June 26th is the release of AWSW. If you could have 1 more book in this series where do you think you would go with it? Maybe a little POV from Harlin? *sigh* 

Suzanne: I would love a third book. It would be called A DESIRE SO DEADLY and it would be focused on Seers. Book one is about the Forgotten. Book two the Shadows. So it’s only fair that Harlin gets his own hot cover, and he is a main focus of the book. You’d read that, right? 

BTP: I agree. I mean, how nice would that be to NOT have a book about HARLIN, err I mean the Seers! No, I totally mean Harlin! =D Here is to hoping that this happens! OF COURSE I will read it.

4.) You have something very different coming out Spring of 2013! The Program. Which I have the feeling it is going to be awesome!! I know you have swoon worthy boys in this one! I mean, how could you not!!? Can you give us a little sneak peek? (make it really good for us =]) 
Suzanne: Should I focus on the story, or the guys? Well, The Program is set in an alternate reality where teen suicide has become an epidemic, a behavioral contagion. To combat this, The Program is created. It erases all of your bad memories, the bad influences in your life, and then they send you back. But you don’t know who your friends are, who your boyfriend is. How your brother died.
Sloane and James have a long history together, but depression is closing in around them. What will they do to stay out of The Program? And how will they survive if they’re torn apart?

BTP: Yes, yes  & yes. When I read The Program, I was totally on the EDGE OF MY SEAT. You guys are in for a treat!!!

5.) Are you working on anything else at this time? Any top secret books planned!? 

Suzanne: I have a few things in the works. Another YA (secret.) An adult (also secret). And then I’m secret-secretly working on another YA. I feel like I’m in writer’s witness protection. 

BTP: I am so very excited for all these secret books!!!

6.) What do you like to do when you are not writing!?
Suzanne: I used to go camping when I lived in Oregon. But now that I’m in Arizona, you can find me near the pool, or walking around a festival somewhere. 

7.) What is your favorite book? One of your favorite quotes from said book?
Suzanne: THE GREAT GATSBY which I love more and more each time I read it. Favorite quote? Probably:

 “You’re worth the whole damn bunch put together.”

It always makes me tear up since I know what’s coming next. 

BTP: I NEED to read this. I know, I know.. but I need to buy it and read it.
