Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father—the one responsible for ruining her mother’s life. Then she’s captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unholy partnership. In exchange for finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She’s amazed she doesn’t end up as his dinner—are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn’t have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her newfound status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side... and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.
“If you run from me, I will chase you, and I'll find you....”
Everything about this book to me was just Bloody great. Cat is of course half-vampire. Her mother was raped by a vampire, leaving her mother a very bitter, controlling woman. When it came to Cat or anything Vampire related. The one thing that Cat swore that she would do, is get justice for her mother by killing every blood sucker that came into her path.
Everything is going just how she wants it.
This is until she has a rather un-nerving run in with a very smart ass vampire, Bones, who certainly knows what Cat is up to. But he defiantly does not know what she is.
Bones is rather shocked to find out "what" Cat is. After somewhat of a deal is made, Cat & Bones have no choice but to work together. She will get what she has always wanted. To find the blood sucker who ruined her mother. And Bones will get to use Cat as bait, to track down and kill some very dangerous vampires, who are doing some very bad things. Yes, Bones is a Bounty Hunter. A very, sarcastic, impatient, sexy, some what sweet, British, Vampire Bounty Hunter. *sigh*
All of Cat's life she had been drilled by her mother to never trust, or do anything with a vampire, but kill them. Even with this deal with Bones she knew deep down what she would do when she had the chance. The only thing that she was very good at.
Until one day, everything between Bones & Cat changes! And then Cat is left wondering if everything that she has felt about these blood thirsty creatures applies to Bones.
The characters of this book were so great. I mean Cat was a feisty woman, who was bad ass with a stake. She was very strong. Even though her mother got on my nerves, Cat felt that she had to please her mother by taking out the Vampires. I just felt her mother was insane in the membrane.
Bones is just all around sexy. His attitude, and how he is so "sure" of himself is very alluring. And that accent, of blimey, Bones had me as soon as he opened his mouth.
The sexual tension in this book is something that was defiantly there. And very strong. I loved seeing the cat & mouse games that they would play. From the things Bones would say to Cat just to make her "blush" to  calling her "Kitten" I loved it. But Cat gave back as much as she could give & more. Which usually only made Bones do it even more, and better.
“Is that a stake, Bones, or are you just happy with my new dress?”
“In this case, it’s a stake. You could always feel around for something more, though. See what comes up.”
The ending left me ready to read book #2. I only hope that Bones keeps his one promise he always said to Cat. Jeaniene Frost is an amazing author. I feel in love with the world & characters she created. I cannot wait to continue on with the Night Huntress series.
Why did I wait so long to start this series? Why? Tell me! I am so very glad I was bullied. YES, BULLIED I TELL YOU. By Alexa @ Pages of Forbidden Love & Angela @ Reading Angel. & I am here to say I am proud of being "bullied" in this situation.

  1. I've heard so much great things about this series that I really have to pick it up as soon as possible - I love your review and there's nothing better than a strong female lead that knows how to seriously kick some ass. :D

  2. YAY!
I'm so glad you really enjoyed this one! I love how Cat and Bones can bicker with each other and do some great one liners.

Book two was just as great in my opinion so I can't wait to see what you think of it. Plus everyone always goes crazy for one of the chapters in there...not saying which one lol.

By the time you get around to book three you are pretty hooked in the series although I thought book three was a little less steamy.

I can't wait to read book four soon!

Thanks for mentioning me and for the awesome review!

  3. I loved this series too ! It's so awesome :)
Cat and Bones were a terrific duo. I loved their banter and yes, I agree there was a lot of sexual tension throughout the book.
    Lovely review, Loretta :D

  4. WELCOME TO THE LEGION OF BONES FOLLOWERS. Or droolers. Or panty droppers. Or a plethora of other things. :D

  5. Cole's talent for weaving paranormal romance continues to shine in her latest installment of the "Immortals After Dark" series. Strong characterization, settings that readers can breathe in, danger in many ruthless forms, and a heady pace are key ingredients to another winner, and definitely present in this novel. A few sections had the potential to slow then entire story to a crawl, but Cole avoided this common writers' trap with style.
