Don’t Sweat. Don’t Laugh. Don’t draw attention to yourself. And most of all, whatever you do, do not fall in love with one of them.Gene is different from everyone else around him. He can’t run with lightning speed, sunlight doesn’t hurt him and he doesn’t have an unquenchable lust for blood. Gene is a human, and he knows the rules. Keep the truth a secret. It’s the only way to stay alive in a world of night—a world where humans are considered a delicacy and hunted for their blood. When he’s chosen for a once in a lifetime opportunity to hunt the last remaining humans, Gene’s carefully constructed life begins to crumble around him. He’s thrust into the path of a girl who makes him feel things he never thought possible—and into a ruthless pack of hunters whose suspicions about his true nature are growing. Now that Gene has finally found something worth fighting for, his need to survive is stronger than ever—but is it worth the cost of his humanity?
What would you do if you had to spend every day of your life being someone that you was not? What if you had to worry that your life was at stake if you laughed? If you got cold, and had chills, or got really hot and of course perspired?
This is what Gene has to worry about every single day of his life.
Whether or not he is going to be discovered for what he is not, and eaten alive by his fellow classmates.
Gene is one of the few last humans, in the world. Or as his “friends” would call him, a Heper. And he is living the life of a vampire.
Before his father’s death he helped Gene with the basics that he would need to do every day in order to do one thing.
Survive.
Everything you think about vampires scratch that out of your head before you read The Hunt. These vampires are rather, FREAKED ME OUT scary. They have things that they do, that gave me the creeps. But, also at the same time intrigued me. I couldn’t look away from the pages. I was very much in love with this disturbed world that Fukuda created.
Everything seems to be going good. When he is faced with a humanly problem he deals with it in a way that he HAS to, to live.
It’s until that Gene’s luck runs out. When all of his numbers are selected for the Lottery of The Hunt, something that he should be so grateful to be a part of. It is where vampires compete with each other to drain the last of the hepers alive. Gene does not know what to do. At that moment, he is taken away to prepare for The Hunt. The only thing is, Gene was not allowed to get his things before he left. He was not allowed to grab that razor to save the hair that is growing right now, or that deodorant concoction that will hide his humanly odor. Everything that he needs will be supplied for him. Not everything that Gene needs everything that a vampire needs! What will Gene do now? When his life is hanging by a thread. It will only take one little thing to give him away. It would not matter one bit for the vampires, his friends, to drain him of his heper blood.
There are moments where you can just FEEL he is about to be caught. Like they can SMELL him, every single second is crucial. And there are heart pounding moments where I literally was holding my breath just waiting for it.
Gene cannot be with his crush, Ashley June. Even though she has never really paid him any attention until now, that they are in the hunt together. Now she seems a little more interested into him, but what can he do? There could never be anything between them. She would eventually know… she would eventually find out and possibly rip him apart. Even though there is something about Ashley’s character, what it is I am not sure. But there is in fact something else to her. I was not sold on the Gene | Ashley relationship. I am rooting for another character that you meet in the book. But, she is not a vampire, she is a heper.
They keep hepers inside The Dome. It is where they live until it is time for the hunt. They are allowed out at during the day, and then when the night comes The Dome is locked to keep the hepers inside.
There are moments in this book where things that happen inside of the dome are something that makes this book and the writing of Fukuda that much better. You can picture everything. And in this crazy book, it makes those moments so beautiful.
Within the dome you will meet one of the hepers, Sissy. She is an amazing character that I of course hope that we get to see more of her kick ass ness in book # 2.
The ending. OMG, the ending. What a freaking ending. I want more. I want book #2 right now. I cannot wait until it comes out.
The only thing that I had an issue with. The ONLY thing, and it is not really an “issue” it’s more of an, “I want to know, because uh, yeah.” What happened? How did the world come to be as it is now in Gene’s life? What made the humans be almost extinct and vampires ruling everything. That is ONE thing I want to know, and or understand. Hopefully in the next installment!
But I will leave you with this.

The Hunt is a heart pounding, bone chilling, freak you out novel. Everything about this book pulled you into the world, that you would rather claw your skin off then live in. All you can do is keep reading, and sitting on the edge of your seat, holding your breath & thinking OH SHIT, about a million times.
I thoroughly enjoyed The hunt and I hope that you do as well!
