Last spring, Nikki Beckett vanished, sucked into an underworld known as the Everneath, where immortals Feed on the emotions of despairing humans. Now she's returned- to her old life, her family, her friends- before being banished back to the underworld... this time forever.
She has six months before the Everneath comes to claim her, six months for good-byes she can't find the words for, six months to find redemption, if it exists.
Nikki longs to spend these months reconnecting with her boyfriend, Jack, the one person she loves more than anything. But there's a problem: Cole, the smoldering immortal who first enticed her to the Everneath, has followed Nikki to the mortal world. And he'll do whatever it takes to bring her back- this time as his queen.
As Nikki's time grows short and her relationships begin slipping from her grasp, she's forced to make the hardest decision of her life: find a way to cheat fate and remain on the Surface with Jack or return to the Everneath and become Cole's...
My Thoughts:
While reading Everneath I feel in love with Brodi Ashton's writing style. I really enjoy Mythology, and love seeing it used in different ways. The book was easy to follow, but at times confusing because you had to remember about what time frame you was reading about. Before or After the Feed. So, because of that it took me a little more that 1/2 way into the book before I was actually "into" the book so to say.
You would find yourself torn between the two male characters Cole and Jack.
Cole of course is the bad boy figure in the book. And bad boy he was. But, I was so not swooning over him. It was Jack for me. Cole was annoying "Stalker" type that would be the boy watching you as you sleep. Weird. I just could not find myself head over heels in swooning action over him.
Nikki, I liked and didn't like. Some of her choices were a little annoying. But, I think that they all played out pretty well for the story. I mean, she kept blaming Cole, for HER choices. I think I liked the male characters MORE than I did the MC. Neither Jack nor Cole deserved any of Nikki's reactions. Like I said, it was HER decision.
The ending was not a surprise. I guessed it way before. I was hoping for a twist.
In book 2 I hope that things play out differently, I will read book to because I feel, book one was a little on the rough side, yes.. BUT I did have some aspects that I did like, and I am very curious to see how this will play out in book #2.
I think I will eventually Re-read the finished copy to see what was changed, and how the pages were cleaned up a bit.

  1. Aw I'm sorry you had some issues with this book. I actually really enjoyed it! I thought it was hauntingly beautiful. Mostly I enjoyed that the relationships in this book are not perfect and that the girl possibly doesn't get the guy she wants to be with.

I know I can't wait for the second book because I need to know what happens!

    Thanks for the great review!
