Series: The Mortal Instruments #1
When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder - much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing - not even a smear of blood - to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy? This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know.... Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare's ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.My Thoughts:
When Clary goes to a club, and witnesses something that no one else can see. She knows that something isn't right. Jace, a Shadowhunter, takes Clary into this new world. In which Clary is a part of more than she could ever imagine.
She meets some very interesting people. And ends up having her best friend Simon, by her side along the way. Although her is not always willing or wanting to do some of the stuff. There is one person who makes a bigger impression in her life then she ever imagined.
With her mom missing. All this new information that Clary has to process, and learn about herself and her family. She is left with allot of Questions that need answers. Answers that she don't want to accept. And some life shattering information, that may keep her from the boy who she really likes.
I read this along with 4 or 5 (maybe more) other people via Twitter. We decided to do a read-a-long. Although I was probably the LAST one to finish. (I had forgot about some books that HAD to be read.) But, I finally finished!
For the 1st part and some of the 2nd part of City of Bones, I was having mixed feelings about the book. I liked it. I just really and honestly could not get into it. I think it was the explaining of everything. I understand we want to know everything, but *whew* it was alot to take in at one time. BUT, after I have thought about it. I am really actually glad that book 1 did that. Left more room for action in the remaining books, since we know everything about the world now, I think.
Now, as for getting into the book. I would say after page 280+ I was hooked. My raiting went from a 2 to a 5 in a matter of minuets. Because even through out the "world building" I still wanted to know more about the characters. In which I loved! I cannot wait to find out more about Clary, Simon, Jace, Alec & Isabella.
The ending of the book, really? Like...... Really? WOW.
I mean I got some information in the last couple pages, to where I wanted to tear them out so that ending would have been non existent. Maybe only for me. But, that ending made me so mad I chucked my book to the wall...(yes, I wanted and did inflict personal pain upon this book) *eeek* I feel bad NOW, but in the moment I was so torn. Distraught. Heartbroken, as to what happened! Now in book 2. I am hoping this is NOT true. You know I can't tell you what IT is. Big Spoiler. But I can VENT about "IT" all day long... Because you will have to read it to find out. And you should.
I really enjoyed this book. Even through the slow parts.
I will be sticking with this series, and continuing the adventure with the gang. Oh yeah, btw, Jace sounds super freaking smoking hot! :)
"Are you going to sleep?"He's just being polite, she told herself. Then again, this was Jace. He was never polite. She decided to answer the question with a question."Aren't you tired?"His voice was low. "I've never been more awake."
