“What keeps you reading beyond the first few pages of a book, and what makes you want to stop reading a book and put it back on the shelf?“
A good story plot. Characters. I have to connect in some way. The words have to draw me in. I cannot stand insta love. We meet, we are in love in an hour type thing. Lust, fine... Love no. :) I hate when a book goes back and fourth through out the whole book. Leaves me confused, and agitated.
I love when the book gives you just enough information, a clue, not enough to tell you what it is, what the answer is, who this is, or what that is.. but, just enough to draw you in, and hold you there in the pages. I love falling in love with new characters. I love learning about there lives. Feeling like I know them. After I read a series, that is usually how I feel. Like I know them, they are a part of my life. I have connected with them. Then there are characters that I don't like, *rolls eyes* ! But that's also something good too. You know -Team Edward / Team Jacob- You love one or the other, no in-between *coughs* <3 Edward! ;)
But you get it. I want, feel whatever feeling that the author is going for when they are writing the book. I want to experience it all.
And most of the time I do.
OMG I JUST REALIZED, IT IS JULY!!!!!

Happy Hopping ^-^

ReplyDeleteLove your blog! And you're answer. (even if you are Team Edward) Yep, insta love is more like insta lust. Drives me absolutely crazy when the girl's all "I loooove him". Nope. You want to bang him. Connecting with characters is a must for me too.

Great answer! Have fun reading and enjoy the 4th of July weekend.
ReplyDeleteThese book blogger hop questions just get better and better. This one looks easy but I think it’s a trick question. We all know it’s the same answer – the writing – but we all have different perspectives of what good writing is.
ReplyDeleteHop on over to my blog at http://www.howardsherman.net and read my three-prong answer as I explain why I’ll decide to pick up a book or put it down in under sixty seconds.
Happy July 4th Weekend!

ReplyDeleteI agree. After reading a book or series, you always feel like you know the characters. If you can't relate to any characters though, it's hard to keep reading.
ReplyDeleteOld follower. I hope you'll take the time to check out my Book Blogger Hop post.

For the books that I'm stashing in rooms, I read in short bursts. To keep reading them I must be able to remember where I am even if I've only read a couple pages or haven't been able to read in days. Come see how I decide what to keep reading and what to stop.
ReplyDeleteHopping through. I love books that slowly let you in on the "answer" as long as it isn't so slow that I get confused.

I started reading a book the last month and it was suppose to be a very good book. But after giving it a couple of chapters I just couldn’t get into it. I put the book aside to read another day. I don’t like to do that because I feel as if my mind might have had too many distractions and I didn’t give the book a chance. So I always try to wait for another day to give it another go. I have so many other books calling to me from my to-be-read list that it can really be distracting. READ ME! READ ME!
ReplyDeleteI prefer reading and reviewing Christian Fiction but I do read a varity of other books. I just can’t handle too scary or gory. Suspense and Mysteries I like. No explicit adult books either if I do find one I really want to read I just skip over the x-rated stuff. So what genre do I read?
